Buzz was 72 years old at the time. Go right ahead and question the existence of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and 2010 Chevy Camaro SS and they, too, might just give you a knuckle sandwich in the kisser. Like Mr. Aldrin, they bear names from long ago that have made a collective return to the limelight. Like Mr. Aldrin, they are American heroes with unparalleled legacies reaching across decades. And like Mr. Aldrin, they have Ph.Ds in kicking ass. Their makers may have proven that they have the financial acumen of a blind yak. However, we submit these pony car icons as proof that the home team can extract their craniums from their nether regions once in awhile and knock the cover off the ball.

It’s been a regular Camarogasm ’round these parts. Some have performed, others never showed up, and one that made at least 700 horsepower ate its clutch. First, we tested an HPE550 Camaro from Hennessey. Then we tested one from Vortech Engineering. Then we borrowed the Hennessey HPE700 LS9 Camaro. This year’s SEMA show even provided a tasteless Camaro Hall of Shame.
The interior features Katzkins Camaro package pattern with Tuscany Midnight and Tuscany Pewter. An orange double and top stitch compliment the orange striping on the exterior. Overhead, Webasto provided the Hollandia 322 large spoiler sunroof with sliding sunshade and rain sensor. So even when Chevrolet steps into the way-back machine to unveil the 426-horspower retro-inflected 2010 Chevy Camaro SS, it’s careful to mention that this muscle/pony car is the “sports car for the 21st century” and emphasizes the Camaro’s fuel economy ratings more than its 0-60-mph performance. So we did what had to be done. We dropped an asphalt-melting burnout in the parking lot of a former seminary that was of such destructive length that the guys hired by Chevy to prep and clean the Camaros had time to wander over and say, “Stop. You’re done.” Had a Dairy Queen been available we would have laid a patch in front of that, too. Look, man. We’ve been waiting for years for the arrival of this car; there will be time to talk about balance and the quality of the interior materials later.
