we made a few runs on a warm humid day

we made a few runs on a warm humid day with a head wind. all runs were made with traction control off. any more rpm over 3000 and the tires would spin. tires were at full tire pressure. we may try it again with the TC on. there is no doubt that if we let some air out of the rear tires it would 60 ft. quicker. i am sure that under ideal track conditions and with plenty of seat time that the car is capable of 12.9-13.1 times at 110 mph. but it is what it is.

We are going to re-test the car tomorrow and try

We are going to re-test the car tomorrow and try to get the 60 ft time closer to 2.0. That should give a more representative ET for the car. Thanks for the feedback.

Compare the price of a Cobra against this. Now put the remaining dollars into performance upgrades and see what happens.

If the Z28 ever comes out it will eat a gt500. And I drive a Mustang…

Edmunds got 13.0 here on youtube. Imagine with a 1.6-1.8

jodl73 | May 25, 2009

Edmunds got 13.0 here on youtube. Imagine with a 1.6-1.8 60ft! As more of these hit the road, wouldn’t be surprised to see 12’s.

I'm a little disappointed in the SS. My stock 2002

mikeyhas | May 26, 2009

I’m a little disappointed in the SS. My stock 2002 SS ran 13.2 and was rated at 325hp. Whats the weight on the new Camaros?

2.3 60ft…….you know you can get a better run resulting in better times…..should be atleast 13.1 in the 1/4

Tappedurassout | June 7, 2009

Yea, they are on par with the 98-02 Ls1’s. My 01 SS went 13.50 at 106 bone stock with a 2.2 or 2.3 60 ft. . Better 60 ft times will net low 13’s. He bogged the car out the gate just like I did mine. 2.0/ 2.1 60 ft with street tires are possible.

You need a solid rear axle in that thing or

390fe390 | June 7, 2009

You need a solid rear axle in that thing or some better tires. My 06 Mustang GT Auto., w/ basic bolt ons = 300rwhp and 306rwtq. (appx. 355hp at the crank) will run high 12’s in the 1/4 (best 12.8 @ 110) with the stock 3:31 gears, control arms, and rubber! How does a 426hp car muster only a mid 13sec 1/4 mile? IRS or not, thats messed up! I hope it’s just not hooking up on those street tires.I like the new camaro but I hope we see better results down the road.

This car is easy 12s. seems like everyone that drives

ehcivicracer | June 8, 2009

This car is easy 12s. seems like everyone that drives this car is afraid to use the full power. Gotta do the no lift shift.

Other test have came in at 13.0, 110 MPH stock.

ctalbert1 | June 9, 2009

Other test have came in at 13.0, 110 MPH stock. I think guys like this take it to the track before it’s broke in, don’t know how to drive it at 100% of it’s potential, and probably don’t even use premium gas. The factory exhaust is restricting as well. This car’s only real flaw I can see is that it’s a little too heavy, & I wish GM would have put in the effort to shave off 200 lbs. Oh well, aftermarket part like headers & exhaust, intake, & thermostat, etc. will help out a lot.

you shift like a little girl.

Ratmouth66 | September 12, 2009

Yeah i’ve seen better times from the SS Camaro, ive seen drag videos of the SS beating out an SRT-8 Challenger and barely getting pulled by GT500s, as for the weight ive never had a problem with the it, Camaros have always been a little heavier, little more powerful, and slightly pricier than Mustangs, i really think Camaros need a track pack option, add 3.70s or 3.80 gears on a live axle (more durable gearing lower costs) and that notorious stiff as hell Camaro performance suspension
